Energy Savings
The cost of energy is soaring, and so
is the cost to heat and cool your home. Reducing energy consumption, without negatively impacting comfort, is clearly the goal.
A Jordan Green Home made with Reddi-Wall blocks can save you money on your energy bills.
Using energy efficient Reddi-Wall technology can reduce energy consumption by up to
75% compared to buildings built with conventional building
materials (wood, fiberglass insulation, etc.). Reddi-Wall
homeowners can
expect annual energy savings in the hundreds
of dollars.
When used for basements alone, Reddi-Wall reduces heating bills by 50% or more.
The Reddi-Wall Corporation's 4000 sq. ft. raised ranch test home built entirely with Reddi-Wall blocks is heated for under $100/yr!
Radiant Heat Loss
The image below is a thermal photograph of a well built, conventionally framed
'stick' house. The image shows one of the largest flaws in conventional
building; radiant heat loss. The yellow and red areas show the highest amount of radiant heat loss. Windows and doors are the highest followed closely by the actual framing pattern itself.
This picture however, excludes one other significant source of heat loss... your basement.
In the
next image we see a thermal photograph taken of a home
constructed with foam blocks. While the radiant heat
loss through the window frames is evident, actual heat loss
through the home's walls is minimal.
R-Values
R-value is a term predominantly used in the building industry to rate the insulative properties of construction materials and building assemblies.
The higher the R-value, the greater insulation value.
According to the Reddi-Wall corporation, the
calculated R-value of Reddi-Wall blocks is R-26. After the foam blocks are filled with
concrete they have a minimum of R-50 and will not loose any insulation
value. In comparison, a poured concrete wall has an R-0.8
rating.
In actual infrared tests, the wall assembly has
actually tested in excess or R-70.
